Recording & Editing Video From a Ceremony or Event
So in case you couldn't tell, I am not Jewish! I am an African American male who was born and raised in southern California as a Non-denominational Christian. I am not the most ignorant person, but I do NOT know everything. I am definitely someone who genuinely respects and embraces other cultures, but I am generally unknowledgeable in Jewish culture in particular. I literally was in my late 20's before I even knew what a Bar Mitzvah was.
What is a Bar Mitzvah/Bat Mitzvah?
For those who are ignorant (like I was) as to what a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah is, let me simplify it for you. "Bar Mitzvah" translates into English as "son of the commandments" (Bat Mitzvah translates to daughter of the Commandments). It is the religious initiation ceremony of a Jewish child, typically held at the age of 13. At this age, the child is said to now be regarded as "ready to observe religious precepts." It essentially is a party that signifies that the child is coming of age, similar to a Quinceañera in Mexican culture when 15 year old girls are initiated into womanhood with a ceremony or party.
So one day I was hired to film a Bat Mitzvah afterparty and edit the video afterwards, and boy did I have to do my research! I didn't really sweat it too much, because I am someone who always does his due diligence prior to any new project to try and be prepared. Not gonna lie - in the days leading up to this event, I found myself getting more and more intimidated. This one was completely new to me, but having the knowledge and background in audio/visual production, technically speaking I felt ready.
Special Thanks to the Blitz family who hired me to shoot and edit this event.
The entire family was super cool, and they approved of the final product.
Shoutout to "A Moment in Time Events" who hosted this beautiful event
in their venue located at Lake Las Vegas, NV,
After having filmed and edited my very first Bat Mitzvah, I can honestly say that I have learned and grown so much! In retrospect, even though I felt ready, I probably could have done more to be prepared for this. Nonetheless, I accomplished my goal of filming an unfamiliar event and creating a recap video that would be a keepsake for family and friends. This has been a great addition to my professional portfolio!
